During the school registration process, which is completed by a school administrator or teacher, the school name, mailing address, phone number, administrative contact's name and email address are collected and stored in the FBI-SOS.org database, which is maintained by the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation.

During student registration:
  • The registrant enters his/her name into the browser screen where it is temporarily held.
  • The registrant selects a state and school from dropdown windows.
  • The registrant is assigned a username consisting of randomly generated numbers followed by @fbi-sos.org - this is not a working email account; it is a username to gain access to the FBI-SOS.org pre and post quiz.
  • A registration page opens with the registrant's first and last name along with the newly created username and password.
  • The sheet is to be printed and given to the teacher.
  • The registrant's name is removed from the computer's memory when the browser is closed.
  • In order to tally points for the contest, only the unique username, password, school and state is recorded in the FBI-SOS.org database.
  • Only the teacher can identify a student using the printed registration page.
  • Lost usernames and passwords result in the student having to re-register with FBI-SOS.org.
